The Program
The Lydia Center offers a 9-18 month residential addiction recovery and life-change program designed to heal hurting women. We provide a safe and non-threathening environment where women can discuss issues specific to them, learn to discard unhealthy and damaging behaviors and experience God's healing power in their lives.
The Lydia Center focuses on three things:
- Counseling: Christian counseling (group and individual) provides women with tools to find healing. Bible classes provide women with instruction and guidance for their spiritual and mental health. Women also participate in spiritual disciplines designed to enrich their relationship with God and others.
- Life Skills: These classes help women develop tools to navigate relationships, which are essential to recovery and life transformation. Topics include conflict resolution, communication, healthy relationships, codependency, sexual integrity, budgeting and relapse prevention.
- Education: We assist women with their education (GED, employment readiness and computer skills) and the development of a career plan that utilizes their God-given talents and interests.
As the women grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ, their lives are changed. They practice responsibility, restore broken relationships with family members and learn how to resolve anger and fear. They begin to dream about how to use their skills to better their community and our society as a whole. We want women to thrive, not just survive.
The Women
Our clients come from all over the United States, as the Lydia Center offers a unique opportunity whether or not a woman can afford it. Some find the Lydia Center by first experiencing the Women's Shelter at the Water Street Mission in Lancaster, PA. Others find the Lydia Center after prison, and still others through friends, family members or church. Many of our women have experienced abuse or addiction to drugs and/or alcohol. Whatever their past, these women need to know that God loves them, has a purpose for them, and wants to help them every step of the way.
The Facilities
The Lydia Center is located on a beautiful 152-acre property. This mountain-top location provides a secluded and peaceful home to Lydia Center clients (we intentionally do not publish its specific location for the safety and protection of our clients). Through funds provided by a capital campaign, this formerly vacant property was purchased in 2002 and dedicated to healing women through Christian faith and guidance. The first client entered our doors that same year.
The main lodge houses the dining hall, a Learning Center, a children’s room, several classrooms, exercise room, and a great room complete with stone fireplace.Six cottages serve as residential housing. Each has four motel-style bedrooms with private baths, a common kitchen, and a shared living area for fellowship and times of relaxation.
