Chapel
Churches from the community conduct services at Water Street Mission’s chapel 365 nights a year. Clients as well as community members attend these services and experience a variety of worship styles.
The Chapel was renovated into a multi-use facility through a renovation project completed in Spring 2007. Since then, this area has also become the site of the Community Homeless Outreach Center (CHOC) – a safe day-time place where the homeless can rest, shower, launder clothing, and receive help with accessing human services. The community organization serves as a single point of entry for someone to access the services that can direct them toward stability and a place to call home.
CHOC is made possible by several organizations working together to maximize strengths; Water Street Mission’s role is to provide the physical location. We believe we can accomplish more for the homeless by working together with community organization, and we are excited to offer a safe place for the homeless to connect with others and to be encouraged on their path toward stability and a place to call home.
In 2002 when Water Street Ministries, of which Water Street Mission is a division, developed plans to renovate the chapel into a multi-purpose room, conversations about CHOC had not yet started. We believe God stirred our hearts back in 2002 to renovate the chapel in this capacity so it could be available to the homeless as an outreach center today.
