Wonder Club Early Learning Centers (WCELC) began as a Bible Club in 1985 to reach inner city children with the love of Jesus. Staff picked up 4- and 5-year-old children from the City of Lancaster, brought them to local sites hosted by community churches, and conducted a two-hour Bible Club with stories, songs, snacks and playtime.
Recognizing the need to help children develop the early basics needed for school success, Wonder Club progressed from a “club” atmosphere to a school program. We introduced a registered private Kindergarten program in Lancaster in 1997. In the mid 1990’s, additional preschool classes began in the Columbia area. Then in 2008, we opened a third site in the Women’s Shelter of Water Street Mission designed to meet the unique needs of 4-year-olds living in homelessness.
